First Citizens Sports Foundation Presents - Weekly Review No 10 of Year 2006
(Period March 7 - 13).
The word around is that 2006 will be a very productive and successful year for
Sportsmen and Sportswomen in Trinidad and Tobago. It is for this reason that
First Citizens Sports Foundation has embarked on weekly reviews so as to keep
you informed and up-dated on the exploits of our athletes on the national,
regional and world sporting stage.
AWARDS - SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR 2005
Lara pips Yorke for 2005 First Citizens Bank Award
Cricketer Brian Lara pipped long-time friend and T&T football team captain
Dwight Yorke and sprinter Marc Burns to take the First Citizens Bank Sportsman
of the Year 2005 Award.
This was title No. 5 for the "Prince of Port-of-Spain", after winning it
previously in 1993, 1999 2001 and 2003.
In Year 2005, the ace West Indies batsman broke Australian Allan Border's record
for the most runs scored in Test cricket (11,174); ending the season with
11,207. This total was bolstered by scored of 196 and 176 against South Africa,
130 and 153 versus Pakistan, and 226 against World Champions Australia.
AWARDS - SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR 2005
Candace Scott was named Sportswoman of the Year 2005 at the First Citizens
Sports Foundation Awards at Club Zen. This is the third consecutive year that
Scott won the award.
Scott literally hit the mark with her hammer throw performances in 2005. On May
15th, she surpassed the 70-metre mark for the first time in her career and
established a new national mark in the process with her 71.45m hurl at the Armed
Forces Day Invitational in Marietta, Georgia. |
